Fort Kochi was built in 1503 as a sign of the strategic alliance between the Maharaja of Cochin and the Portuguese monarch. The fort consists of several buildings of historical and cultural importance including David Hall, Vasco House and Vasco-da-Gama Square. The Dutch Cemetery is another tourist attraction. Built in the year 1724, it’s believed to be the oldest cemetery in the country. Almost 104 epitaphs and tombs are lined up inside the cemetery and carry the authentic records of hundreds of people of Dutch and British nationality. Another place to witness the heritage of this region is St. Francis Church. The church shows extensive Dutch and Portuguese influences in its architecture.

Then, proceed to the Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point and Kundala Lake. Mattupetty Dam offers amazing views of the valley and families are often seen enjoying an afternoon here. Situated about 15km from Munnar, Echo Point, as the name suggests, is where you can listen to your own echoes. It’s also a popular picnic spot. Visit the Eravikulam National Park. This park is most famous for the Neelakurinji flowers which bloom once in every 12 years, apart from the rich flora and fauna, an example being the Nilgiri Tahr. South India’s highest peak, Anamudi (2,695m), is also situated within the park.

Explore the various kinds of handicrafts, sea-shell created items etc.
