Pushkar Fair is one of India’s most unique travel experiences. Held annually in November at the auspicious time of the Kartik Purnima full moon, the Fair is not one of the biggest camel trade fairs and meet for pilgrims. The 5-day spectacle attracts thousands of camels, horses and cattle and is visited by over 400,000 people.
The Pushkar Fair is an extraordinary celebration of camel, the ship of the desert. Camels are beautifully decorated and there are parade and competitions for the animals as well as their masters. Camels compete in a beauty contest and the finest one is awarded. Another interesting competition calculates the number of people who can sit on the camel's back. Camel fur is trimmed and made into pattern and the one with the best design has a title. There are food stalls, acrobats, puppet shows, camping, desert safaris and pretty much every excitement one could try in the desert.
The festivity and fervour is unmatched, it is the prized desert animal that enjoys the most. The Pushkar Fair is also the time when the varied culture of colourful Rajasthan is exhibited in front of the curious tourists.
