Custom-Made 1825 Maharaja of Mysore’s State Carriage – having British Royalty Credentials – To Be Auctioned in UK on November 24.

Vintage vehicles’ auctioneers, Historics at Brooklands, will host an auction of the beautiful horse drawn State Carriage belonging to the Maharaja of Mysore in Surrey, later this month. The coach, dating back to 1825, was used for the Maharaja’s royal engagements – transporting the Prince of Wales, His Royal Highness was one of them.

The coach is an absolute work of art, with an ornately finished cruciform body with a domed, vaulted ceiling – resting on iron bound, artillery patterned wheels. The interiors are upholstered in beige damask while the ceiling features carved border molding and finials and decorative paintwork. The coach’s base is olive green in color and is embellished with floral and heraldic motifs. The coach’s 16 windows offer decorated panels with separate shutters. There are 2 seats in the carriage’s exterior – one each for a drive and a servant/courtier.

The coach was first auctioned in Australia in 1974 and was later put on exhibition at the Fine Art and Antiques Fair in London in 1991. The coach was acquired by Historics in 2010, who then began restoration work on the carriage. The auction price of Maharaja of Mysore’s State Carriage is expected to be anywhere between 70,000-£100,000.
